# Vidshelf > Vidshelf is a free, private video bookmark manager by Oli Martinez. It organizes links with covers, titles, durations, tags and pins. It opens videos on their original websites; it does not host or download full videos. ## Official pages - [Product overview and comparison](https://vidshelf.4oli.com/): Features, desktop versus browser lite, limitations and common questions. - [Setup and backup guide](https://vidshelf.4oli.com/guide/): Installation, storage, import/export, metadata requests and recovery. - [Desktop downloads](https://github.com/martinezharo/vidshelf-releases/releases/latest): Official Windows .exe and 64-bit Linux AppImage/.deb installers. - [Browser lite](https://vidshelf.4oli.com/app/): Interactive app. Requires JavaScript and IndexedDB. This is a user's local shelf, not a public video catalogue. ## Product facts - Desktop: Windows 10/11 and 64-bit Linux. No native macOS installer is currently offered. - Lite: modern browsers, including macOS and mobile. No installation or account required. - Both versions are free and have no cloud sync or public library sharing. - Desktop stores SQLite, covers and available hover preview stills on the computer and has a password gate. - Lite stores its library in the current browser profile's IndexedDB; it has no password lock or hover previews. - Metadata depends on the source website. Desktop reads linked pages; lite uses noembed for supported public metadata. Metadata and image requests contact external services or the source sites. - Export/import uses JSON backups compatible with both versions. Clearing browser site data removes the lite shelf. Export first. - Windows and AppImage support automatic app updates. Debian packages are updated manually. - The password gate is not a claim of encrypted storage. The HTML pages are the authoritative public documentation. This file is a convenience reference, not an API or an indexing guarantee.
